INTERDISCIPLINARY IN LaBgraduate program

12 master's courses and 1 engineering course in different disciplines, united by a single pedagogical approach

It aims to introduce students with the world of research within the laboratories attached to the University of Montpellier, and to promote interdisciplinarity around three main thematic pillars: Feed Care and Protect.

LIVE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN RESEARCH

An immersive experience in research

Each year, for 2 years, benefit from a 6-month internship, subsidized and in total immersion within a research laboratory.

Personalized training

You can select your courses according to your objectives.

Training in an international environment

All courses are taught in English.
A program of assistance to international students provides a dedicated scholarship, assistance with transportation costs and the discovery of French culture.

An innovative pedagogy

You will be accompanied throughout your Master’s degree by two researchers or professor-researchers, who will help you build and develop your research project.

You're open to interdisciplinarity

Master's programs include courses in other IDIL disciplines to prepare you to take part in international projects.

From the Master's level onwards, research projects will be developed by groups of IDIL students from all disciplines.

The scientific projects into which the doctorates will be integrated must be interdisciplinary.

Graduate program?

In the Anglo-Saxon model, a graduate program corresponds to the Master's and PhD levels. In line with this structure, the IDIL project is also aimed at doctoral students, and will propose the funding of 10 interdisciplinary doctoral contracts each year.

Program objectives

PROMOTE INTERDISCIPLINARITY RELATED TO FEEDING, PROTECTING AND CARING

Interdisciplinarity is an emerging need in research in all scientific fields. The University of Montpellier intends to promote this interdisciplinarity, and respond to the needs of scientific communities, by developing a new vision of training and research, based on issues or themes situated at the interface of the three major pillars of excellence of the Montpellier site, which are. FeedCare and Protect.

STRENGTHENING THE MASTER’S-PHD CONNECTION

For research-oriented students, the IDIL program allows them to begin laboratory immersion as early as possible.

Starting M1, the students will build a personalized project that will be the guideline for their training, with the help of their pedagogical tutors and mentors. To do this, they can choose personalized teaching units suited to their profile.

The mentor who accompanies the student during the two-year internship can thus establish a relationship of trust with him/her, and facilitate the pursuit of his/her research towards a PhD.

OFFER "IN LAB" TRAINING FROM THE M1

The primary objective is to train students through research and for research in laboratories attached to the University of Montpellier. To this end, 6-month internships are planned, not only to introduce students to the world of research as early as possible, but also to enable them to learn some of the concepts usually covered in lectures, in direct contact with researchers.

All Master 1 and Master 2 internships are subsidized.

In addition to this system, "In Lab" teaching units, delivered by research teams over a few days, are organized in the laboratories, with the aim of learning a specific technique, method or notion in immersion.

A PROGRAM OPEN TO THE WORLD

All IDIL courses are taught entirely in English, with the aim of enhancing the attractiveness of the University of Montpellier's courses to international students. A financial support program has also been set up to assist the arrival of our international students:

  • 4-month scholarships (in addition to the up to 6 months subsidized internship also in M1 & M2)
  • Financial support on travel costs to France
  • Free French as a Foreign Language courses

A word from the project leaders

The idea behind IDIL is to train through research, but not only for it: some students will go on to become researchers, but others will put their skills to good use elsewhere. We want to break down the disconnected image of researchers. In fact, interdisciplinarity and professionalization are at the heart of the program.

Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice-President Academic and University Life and Co-Leader of the IDIL graduate program.

Incoming mobility will be encouraged in particular by providing support for students: French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses and financial assistance for travel, for example.
