ECOLOGY Non-core TU: A field trip to the La Gardiol Massif
The objective of the Non-CoreMediterranean Ecosystems is to explore the Mediterranean’s terrestrial environments, their diversity, dynamics, and history.

A refreshing outing to learn about our unique local flora and fauna.
As part of this course, we set out for the Massif de la Gardiole on December 10th. Professors Christophe Petit and Vincent Girard from ISEM (Institute of Evolutionary Sciences of Montpellier) led us on a field trip to observe various bird species typical of the Mediterranean coastline. Later, while walking around La Gardiole, we were able to identify plant species specific to this environment. Finally, we learned the basics of dendrochronology, the scientific method for dating tree rings (also known as growth rings).

What is a Non-Core Teaching Unit?
This is an introductory course to a new field of study, designed to help our students develop interdisciplinary knowledge. The aim is to foster critical thinking and a scientific approach.
