Launch of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses

Last Tuesday, a group of teachers from the University of Montpellier, keen to improve their ability to teach and engage students in English, regardless of their discipline, took part in a short EMI training course.

What is EMI? 🔎

EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) refers to the use of English to teach academic subjects in countries where English is not the main language. This innovative approach can open up our training courses to a wider international audience and promote new teaching practices.

During this introductory module, participants will:

  • Identify the key principles, benefits, and challenges of EMI
  • Analyze linguistic, pedagogical, and intercultural dimensions
  • Reflect on their own teaching practices and contexts
  • Explore ways to implement EMI in their classes

This initiative is part of the IDIL graduate program.
Many thanks to our colleague Vanessa Clamy-Sebag for leading this session and to all the participants for their commitment: Guillaume Charrière, Laura Michel, Anne Charpentier, Anne-Marie Martinez, Cedric Champollion, Denis Mottet, Bruno Guinand, Mathieu Sicard, and Valérie Borrell Estupina.
