Launch of "English as a Medium of Instruction" (EMI) courses

Last Tuesday, a group of professors from the University of Montpellier, eager to improve their ability to teach and engage students in English, regardless of their field of study, participated in a short EMI training session.

What is EMI? 🔎

EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) refers to the use of English to teach academic subjects in countries where English is not the primary language. This innovative approach can open our programs to a broader international audience and promote new teaching practices.

During this introductory module, participants will:

  • Identify the key principles, benefits, and challenges of EMI
  • Analyze the linguistic, pedagogical, and intercultural dimensions
  • Reflect on their own teaching practices and contexts
  • Are exploring ways to incorporate digital media literacy into their classes

This initiative is part of the IDIL graduate program.
A big thank you to our colleague Vanessa Clamy-Sebag for leading this session, and to all the participants for their commitment: Guillaume Charrière, Laura Michel, Anne Charpentier, Anne-Marie Martinez, Cedric Champollion, Denis Mottet, Bruno Guinand, Mathieu Sicard, and Valérie Borrell Estupina.
