Launch of “English as a Medium of Instruction” (EMI) Courses

Last Tuesday, a group of professors from the University of Montpellier, eager to improve their ability to teach and engage students in English—regardless of their field of study—participated in a short EMI training session.

What is EMI? 🔎

EMI (“English as a Medium of Instruction”) refers to the use of English to teach academic subjects in countries where English is not the primary language. This innovative approach can open up our programs to a broader international audience and foster new teaching practices.

During this introductory module, participants will:

  • Identify the key principles, benefits, and challenges of EMI
  • Analyze the linguistic, pedagogical, and intercultural dimensions
  • Reflect on their own teaching practices and contexts
  • Are exploring ways to incorporate digital media literacy into their classes

This initiative is part of the IDIL graduate program.
A big thank you to our colleague Vanessa Clamy-Sebag for facilitating this session and to all the participants for their commitment: Guillaume Charrière, Laura Michel, Anne Charpentier, Anne-Marie Martinez, Cedric Champollion, Denis Mottet, Bruno Guinand, Mathieu Sicard, and Valérie Borrell Estupina.
